Courtney Lee and Luke McElcheran are summer students at Taylor Hazell Architects; Courtney through the School of Architecture’s Co-operative Education program at the University of Waterloo, and Luke through the NSERC Create Heritage Engineering program at Carleton University.
Over the past few months, Courtney and Luke have become an integral part of the THA office, placed in the centre of our open office environment, as they supported the partners, associates and architectural staff in project work; they worked on design and construction drawings, reviews on site (sometimes travelling across the province), and used their innate creativity in a myriad of daily projects. In this short time, they have had the chance to learn from and help each member of the THA staff, being part of some of the most well know historic projects in Ontario, and seeing new things built.
When asked about their experience…
Courtney feels that her experience working on a wide range of tasks along with her extensive involvement representing THA during site visits has provided her with in-depth, hands-on experience which has allowed her to build not only on her technical know-how, but also on her project coordination, communication, and interpersonal skill-sets.
Luke feels that his experience at THA complements the design focus of the Master’s program with pragmatic project experience and supports his research interest into the ecosystem of industries and trades working around architecture conservation.
A BIG THANK YOU TO COURTNEY AND LUKE FOR THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE THA TEAM THIS SUMMER!
