At the National Trust Conference in Hamilton, Ontario, Jill Taylor chaired the Engineering in the World of Heritage Panel, and was on The Conserving Diversity: Communities, Stories and Structures Panel.
The Conserving Diversity: Communities, Stories and Structures discussion touched upon a number of themes and ideas including: connecting story and community with historic place; the use of historic places to educate and spread awareness of/on cultural diversity; the role of community engagement in identifying heritage value and developing conservation approaches to historic places; the importance of architectural, cultural and environmental diversity in urban conservation; the parallels between biodiversity and cultural diversity in creating resilient communities; the deeper understanding of place through the interwoven layers of time and culture.
This was an interesting and engaging talk, with many experts sharing their opinions.
