Orillia Opera House Restoration

“Since its opening in 1895, the Orillia Opera House has been a focal point for the cultural life of the City of Orillia.”

THA and its conservation team is working on an exciting interior restoration of the historic building’s 700-seat Gordon Lightfoot Auditorium. The folk music legend and hometown hero, Gordon Lightfoot, performed to a sold-out show in November, celebrating his 80th birthday in the auditorium where he and pianist Glenn Gould practiced in their youth.

A decorative plaster restoration with historic colours has transformed the main space of the Opera House. Work is ongoing this spring to restructure the mezzanine. THA’s team has included heritage engineers Tacoma Engineers, S. Poulin Conservation Services and In Restauro Conservart, with Ultimate Construction carrying out the work for the City of Orillia.

The interior renovation and restoration is breathing new life into one of the City’s most prominent heritage buildings – an iconic venue that continues to attract the best in Canadian and global talent.
