The magic of toys in shop windows is a reminder of joy and expectation at the start of the cold winter, as well as the creativity and love that we dedicate to children. In December in the Junction, windows are dressed up to capture our senses of smell, taste, touch, sight and hearing, through colour, food, traditional mementos and light. We have chosen to display a window of toys from another generation of expectant children, ones now worn and beautiful in their individuality and promise of play. Our work at THA has focussed us on the beauty of old things, how age can enhance, how much embodied knowledge and energy has gone into the world of craft, materials and making through the years. How fitting that toys we have loved evoke this message of sustainability, hope and anticipation of joy in what is to come.
As one year ends and another begins, we renew this connection between the past, present and future, starting with the pleasures that come from play and good company.
The holiday is almost over and we will ring in the New Year. If you are in the Junction, please drop by and see our holiday showcase, and enjoy the remarkable neighbourhood we are a part of!
