Doors Open – Taylor Hazell Architects

Doors Open – Taylor Hazell Architects

THA is proud to have participated in another successful Doors Open! With over 400 people in attendance, THA Doors Open showcased our projects, our passion for architecture, the neighbourhood and the craftspeople we work with within the field.

Project profiles included those we have completed that were part of other Doors Open tours including the R.C. Harris Water Treatment Plant, Osgoode Hall Courthouse, Law Society of Ontario, Casa Loma, Clark Centre for the Arts, and others.

Charles Hazell, Jon Soules and Jill Taylor presented well-attended lectures throughout the day, and we thank those who attended for their great questions: we learned a lot from you.

Architect Jon Soules gave two lectures, one on building with stone and the other on Toronto of the past, through studies, examples and his spectacular architectural hand drawings. There was thunderous applause.

Jill Taylor discussed the importance of craftsmanship in conservation through the lens of William Morris, highlighting stained glass artist and studio owner Eve Guinan (EGD Glass) and conservation roofing contractors, Semple Gooder.

Charles Hazell highlighted the importance of preservation of context in an evolving City, with important original research that is ongoing with the Junction Heritage Conservation Board on the upcoming HCD in West Toronto Junction.

We are inspired Doors Open and will carry the spirit of what we learned throughout the year ahead – thank you for everyone who came in, chatted with the THA staff and volunteers, and made the 2-days memorable.

Thank you to the THA staff, the City, Toronto Society of Architects and their volunteers who supported both days of the event with enthusiasm and passion for our projects!
