Jon joined THA as a Senior Project Architect in 2021 to guide the design through contract document and construction administration stages of York Memorial Collegiate. His skills in design of educational and athletic facilities, theatres, education and mixed-use master planning, government and high-security building programs and abilities to coordinate complex issues of Building Code, site conditions and engineering disciplines are of immense value to our team.
His distinguished career is widely known. A proud graduate of Waterloo in 1983, he wandered the world to see the great architecture of Europe, North Africa and the Near Middle East as a result of a scholarship, during which time he taught in Rome and honed his great talent for hand sketching. He was a principal at DSA for 14 years, having joined them in 1993. Jon is an outstanding design and managing architect and a teacher and mentor to many aspiring architects.
Jon is committed to architectural detail resolution – both practical and beautiful – for complex architectural projects, with a particular interest in collaboration with our engineering colleagues. His work in research and design innovation, building retrofit, integrated technological solutions, project management and consultant coordination is exceptional. His expertise in construction documentation stems, he says from being in a family in the construction industry, and from his early interest in drawing
Jon has been awarded 21 Rendering and Observational Awards of Excellence in International architectural drawing competitions. He served as President of the American Society of Architectural Illustrators and hosted the 30th “Architecture in Perspective” AIP 30 conference in Toronto in 2015 and continues to serve on the Board of the ASAI.
Jon was awarded a Fellowship in the RAIC (FRAIC) in 2015. He practices the art of the pun. It should be noted that this discipline is to exercise his creative thinking processes, as he says, he is not actually funny. He enjoys drawing, landscaping, reading, playing basketball with son and daughter, skiing with his family and listening to jazz.
